Position Summary
ACDI/VOCA is looking for a Chief of Party candidate for a forthcoming U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food for Progress (FFPr) Program in Ghana. The initiative seeks to assist Ghana in updating its agricultural sector by enhancing productivity and/or increasing trade in agricultural goods. If ACDI/VOCA achieves success with the opportunity, employment is anticipated to commence in October 2025.
The Chief of Party will offer strategic direction, guaranteeing excellent design, execution, and supervision of the program. They will guide a multidisciplinary team, act as the main contact with USDA and stakeholders, ensure compliance, and synchronize activities with national priorities.
This role will be situated in Ghana, with the exact location determined by the project’s area of influence and USDA’s recommendations.
Duties
- Act as the main liaison with USDA, ACDI/VOCA headquarters, government partners, private sector stakeholders, and other local collaborators.
- Direct strategic planning, formulation of yearly work plans, and daily project execution in accordance with USDA regulations.
- Guarantee prompt, superior delivery of the project’s technical, financial, and operational elements.
- Oversee and guide senior technical and operational personnel, aiding in their professional growth and managing performance.
- Supervise the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) framework to guarantee that project objectives are achieved or surpassed, utilizing adaptive management practices when necessary.
- Encourage sustainable collaborations between the public and private sectors and attract private investment in designated value chains.
- Establish financial systems to oversee spending and monitor advancements relative to the budget and work plan.
- Present the project through written and oral formats to various audiences, such as the client, community stakeholders, and internal leaders.
- Supervise collaboration with subcontractors, consultants, and on-site teams to uphold technical and operational superiority.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agribusiness, agricultural economics, veterinary science, or a similar area; a higher academic degree is preferred.
- At least 10 years of advancing leadership experience in managing agriculture, value chain, or cooperative development initiatives.
- Previous experience as Chief of Party for USDA or other USG-funded initiatives; FFPr experience highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in agriculture-related projects in Ghana, possessing robust industry connections and proven ability to collaborate with local and central government entities.
- Demonstrated knowledge in agricultural efficiency, trade support, and private sector involvement.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in resource-limited situations.
- Outstanding communication and teamwork abilities with various teams and stakeholders.
- English fluency is necessary; skills in Akan are greatly preferred.
- Should possess strong written and verbal communication abilities.
