The Opportunity
Abt is looking for a skilled Senior Communications Specialist to support the Feed the Future Resilience in Northern Ghana Systems Strengthening project. This program aims to improve the capabilities of all stakeholders to address poor nutrition and low resilience in northern Ghana. RING II Systems Strengthening will result in long-term improvements in the delivery of local services, leading to measurable gains in the nutrition and resilience of an estimated 85,000 reproductive-aged women and children under the age of five. The Senior Communications Manager role will be based full-time in Tamale, Ghana.
Core Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Director, the Senior Communications Specialist will create and implement a communications strategy to share RING II’s learning and accomplishments with USAID and key public and private sector partners. This could include, but is not limited to the following:
- Create and manage a comprehensive communications strategy to convey activity outcomes, technical reports, and lessons learned with USAID and other key public and private sector stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project staff to identify and document project activities, accomplishments, successes, best practices, and lessons learned, while using various communication channels to promote the project and USAID’s investment.
- Develop and implement internal communication protocols through a range of platforms (e.g., weekly operational meetings, monthly progress reports, quarterly reviews, and annual work planning) to capture and document knowledge generated by the project’s technical activities and personnel.
- Create materials and multi-modal media campaigns to encourage behaviour change in nutrition, WASH, local agriculture, good governance, gender inclusivity, and knowledge sharing across results areas.
- Ensure that all deliverables and public-facing goods comply with USAID branding rules to effectively express that foreign aid is provided by the American people.
- Create and implement knowledge-management strategies and mechanisms in collaboration with the Abt home office.
- Contribute and finalize annual work and training plans.
- Create fact sheets and ensure that infographics are effectively incorporated into quarterly and annual reports.
- Prepare and submit bimonthly updates.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
Required Skill or Experience
- Master’s degree and 6–8 years of experience.
- Previous field experience with USAID-funded programs
- Experience in social media, graphic design, and video editing is desirable.
- Excellent computer abilities, especially strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal abilities, particularly remaining calm under pressure. Must be capable of managing relationships with USAID, as well as internal and external program stakeholders and partners.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and a strong sense of deadlines were demonstrated. Capable of managing multiple things at once and completing them well.
- Fluent written and spoken English is necessary.
