NATO Internship Programme 2027 in Belgium (Fully Funded)

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) invites students and recent graduates from member countries to apply for its 2027 Internship Programme. This paid six-month placement at NATO Headquarters in Brussels offers a unique opportunity to work within a political and military alliance that promotes freedom and security across one billion people. The internship provides valuable exposure to international diplomacy, defence policy, and security operations while allowing participants to contribute directly to the Alliance’s objectives.

What NATO Offers

Selected interns receive a comprehensive benefits package throughout their placement. The programme provides a monthly stipend of EUR 1,335, which is adjusted annually for inflation. Additionally, interns receive a prepaid return flight or train ticket up to EUR 1,200 from their place of origin. Participants also enjoy 15 days of paid leave during the six-month period and benefit from a structured induction programme and monthly briefings that provide insights into NATO’s activities and structure.

The internship is available across multiple professional areas, including political affairs, defence and security, innovation, operations, communications, finance, human resources, science and technology, and infrastructure. This broad range of expertise means candidates from diverse academic backgrounds can find suitable placements.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet specific requirements to qualify for the programme. You must be at least 21 years of age and hold citizenship of a NATO member country. Regarding educational status, you must have completed at least two years of university-level studies and be enrolled in a third year, or have obtained your highest degree less than one year before the application deadline. Proficiency in English or French is required, as these are NATO’s two official languages.

The application and security clearance process can take up to eight months, so selected candidates should be prepared for this timeline.

How to Apply

Submit your application through NATO’s e-recruitment system, TALEO, when the call opens around April or May 2026. You may apply for a maximum of three positions. Shortlisted candidates complete an online assessment on the HireVue platform, followed by further interviews for those selected. All applicants must obtain a security clearance from their national authorities before starting the internship.
