National Maritime College of Ireland Cullen PhD Scholarship 2025

The National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) is excited to announce a unique opportunity to apply for the Cullen PhD Scholarship, made possible through a partnership with the Marine Institute and the Marine Research Programme of the Government of Ireland. This fully funded four-year PhD program is designed to delve deeply into the innovative domain of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS).

The research will primarily focus on the implications of integrating these advanced vessels into coastal areas. It will seek to understand their transformative impact on the maritime sector as a whole. A key aspect of the study will be examining how MASS can reshape Maritime Education and Training (MET), preparing future industry professionals for the evolving landscape of maritime operations.

Students will engage in comprehensive research aimed at exploring the potential challenges and opportunities that arise from the deployment of MASS, ultimately contributing to the development of effective strategies and training curricula that address the demands of a rapidly advancing maritime environment. This scholarship represents a significant opportunity not just for individual academic growth, but also for contributing valuable insights to a pivotal field within maritime studies.
