POSITION: Finance Manager – Mining

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The company is pursuing a greenfield mining project in Nigeria to produce technology metals such as lithium, tin, and other minerals. Plans are underway for substantial exploration activities, including drilling, which will result in a Resource Estimate under NI 43 101. Concurrently, an initial mining phase will process mineralization found in the deposit’s alluvial system.

The successful applicant will report directly to the CEO and will direct or coordinate the mine’s accounting and other financial activities, as well as head the financial reporting function and design and maintain control systems and processes. This position will be situated in the Accra office and needs frequent travel to Nigeria.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the mine’s financial and budgetary activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and boost efficiency.
  • Aligns financial and budget requirements with the annual business strategy.
  • Identifies prospective opportunities for cost savings, process improvement, or policy reform.
  • Ensure that effective financial capability exists to support business objectives.
  • Direct, plan, or implement policies, objectives, and actions within the financial function to ensure long-term viability and maximum return on investment.
  • Transparency in operations is being implemented to build public trust in financial and operational stewardship while also providing the best possible service to stakeholders.
  • Ensure that operational actions comply with applicable legal, regulatory, ethical, and other business compliance standards.
  • Overseeing the development of suitable systems and controls to detect and mitigate key commercial, financial, regulatory, reputational, and other risks.
  • Managing business operations and service delivery in the organization’s primary areas of business to achieve strategic goals and objectives.
  • Transforming corporate offices and lines of business to prioritize quality, standardization, and process and system improvements.
  • Responsibilities include overseeing the mine’s financial operations, producing and presenting accurate management information, implementing audit-compliant financial processes and controls, and maintaining the Life of Mine financial model.
  • Ensures that corporate resources are managed efficiently in conformity with appropriate regulations such as the Companies Act, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) principles, King III, and others.
  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, reporting and disclosure requirements, internal controls, and management information systems.
  • Ensures that a risk management strategy is in place and that compliance is adequately managed at the mine.
  • Establish and develop relationships with key stakeholders to influence decision-making/interpretation in favour of company objectives.

QUALIFICATION

  • Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similar discipline; an MBA or postgraduate degree is desirable.
  • The CPA, CFA, or comparable professional credential is highly desirable.
  • Proven expertise (5+ years) in Finance and Accounting jobs at a senior management level in mining, preferably in a fast-paced environment, is required.
  • A solid understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting principles.
  • Excellent communication abilities, including the ability to explain complex financial data simply and concisely.
  • Strategic thinker with the capacity to turn financial insights into practical solutions.
  • A solid understanding of mining finance, including cost structures, project economics, and industry-specific financial measures.
    Proficiency in financial software and tools, including advanced Excel skills, is required.
