Manitoba, Canada Introduces 2-Year Extended Work Permit Policy for 2025

Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria

  • You hold a valid work permit expiring in 2025.
  • You held a valid work permit on May 7, 2024, which has since expired and:
  • You have applied for a new work permit under section 200.
  • You have applied for an extension of temporary resident status under section 181.
  • You have applied for restoration of status under section 182.
  • You were authorized to work under paragraph 186(u) and have applied for a new work permit or extension.

2. Additional Manitoba-Specific Conditions

Candidates must also show:

  • A valid Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) Expression of Interest (EOI) profile on January 15, 2025, that remains active.
  • Continuous residence in Manitoba since before January 15, 2025.
  • Current employment in Manitoba with an employer willing to provide a letter of employment.
  • An intention to permanently settle in Manitoba.

How to Apply

Starting April 22, 2025, qualified individuals can apply for a Support Letter through Manitoba’s online portal.

Required Documents for Submission

To apply, you will need:

  • A Letter of Employment from your Manitoba employer.
  • A copy of your current work permit or proof of your expired work permit along with proof of restoration application.
  • A copy of your MPNP Expression of Interest profile.
  • If your application is successful, the Support Letter will enable you to apply for a two-year Manitoba-specific work permit. This will help you transition smoothly until you secure permanent residency.
