Major Changes in Australia Visas 2023 | Australian Visa Update
Are you aware that Australia’s immigration policy has already undergone considerable modification under the current labor administration in 2023? The number of slots available under the permanent migration program has increased from 160,000 to 195,000 in 2022–2023.
This post covers the six significant visa revisions for 2023 that you ought to keep aware of.
An enormous increase in the total number of visas provided through the states and territories is projected as a result of the improved regional distribution. According to a previous secretary for immigration, one of the key benefits of subclass 190 and subclass 491 visas, sometimes known as Australian state-sponsored visas, is the ability to work for any employer without being tied to one particular employer.
Candidates are obliged to be below 45 and have employment-finding responsibilities.
What are some of these changes?
State and Territories
To make it simpler for people to apply for state-nominated visas, the state and its territories have lowered the requirements for applications and expanded their lists of specialized occupations.
System Review
The government will conduct an immigration system review and hire more workers to speed up the visa application process and reduce Australia’s visa backlog, which traditionally ranged between 600,000 to 1,000,000 applications.
“I’m delighted to announce that we have so far processed a little over four million visas since coming to office,” said Andrew Giles, minister of citizenship, immigration, and multicultural affairs. He said that efforts to address the widespread skill shortages had made significant progress and that Australians’ lives have improved as a result of being reunited with loved ones.
Priority Processing for New Zealanders
Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa applicants’ priority processing in the New Zealand stream will help New Zealanders living in Australia. The department no longer requires applicants to meet specific health standards, have earned a certain level of taxable income, have resided in Australia for at least five years, or meet other conditions to qualify for a visa.
The department will stop taking new visa applications in July 2023 until the pile of applications in the system is cleared. Citizenship will also be expedited for those who received a New Zealand stream visa.
Prioritizing New Regulations for Skilled Visas
Decisions on applications are now made using the following hierarchy of importance:
Applications for permanent and provisional visas that are part of the migration program, except the subclass 188 Business Innovation and Investment Provisional Visa, which require submission by individuals in the medical or teaching fields, as well as those nominated by accredited sponsors, for a designated geographic regions area, and for visa subclasses that are intended for permanent residence.
This covers all other visa applications as well. If a traveler has a valid passport, they obtain preference. Candidates from outside Australia are given preference for temporary and permanent skilled visa applications.
A New Visa for Pacific Island Nations
Beginning in July 2023, a new visa program with 3,000 vacancies will be available to talented immigrants from the Pacific region. The Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) seats will distribute annually via ballots. Together with the openings in Australia’s permanent migration program, these visas will be made available.
Before the visa issuance, access more details on the Department of Home Affairs website.
Visas for Children and Partners
There is no cap on the number of demand-driven partner visa grants because doing so will facilitate family reunions. During this fiscal year, the federal government expects to grant about 40,500 partner visas. Demand also influences the issuance of child visas, with 3,000 visas anticipated.
