Program Availability
LSHTM is providing two First Generation Scholarships for students who will enroll in one of its six MSc distance learning courses in 2025–26. These are entirely online, part-time Master’s degrees that learners can finish flexibly within a maximum of five years. Please be aware that this scholarship is not applicable to PG Certificate or PG Diploma courses.
Eligibility Requirements
To pursue this transformative opportunity, candidates need to:
- Be applying to start a distance learning MSc program at LSHTM in 2025–26.
- Do not currently possess a Master’s degree or a higher-level qualification.
- Fulfill LSHTM’s basic English language criteria.
- Maintain a proposal of acceptance.
- Be the first in their family to go to university—meaning their parents or guardians did not earn a BA, BSc, or higher degree before the applicant reached 18 years old.
- Priority will be awarded to candidates who belong to any of the following backgrounds:
- African descent
- Experienced in care
- Care provider
- Incapacitated
- Alienated from relatives
- Refugee or seeker of asylum.

Timeline for Applications
To qualify for the LSHTM First Generation Scholarship for 2025–26, applicants need to have an admission offer to one of the approved M.Sc. distance learning programs by 28 March 2025. Following this date, qualified candidates will be asked to fill out an additional question form. Final determinations regarding scholarship recipients are anticipated to be concluded, with successful candidates informed, by 23 May 2025.
