Canada is one of the top countries in the world in providing accessible, high-quality education for international students. To understand what program to select, you must first understand Canada’s levels of study.
ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY EDUCATION IN CANADA
All children in Canada are legally required to attend school, with schooling beginning at the age of 5-6 and continuing until at least the age of 16. Canada has 12 grades, and the system begins with elementary school and progresses to secondary school.
Once a student completes Grade 12, they receive a high school diploma that allows them to apply for post-secondary (college and university)
CANADA’S SCHOOLING SYSTEM
Canada’s schooling system is both private and public schools. While private schools often have specialized curriculums, programs, and resources, they often charge an annual tuition rate.
Public schools are fully funded by the government and teach a government-mandated curriculum. A student becomes eligible to attend college or university once they receive their high school diploma. If foreign national wishes to attend college or university in Canada, they should be able to demonstrate that they possess a high school diploma as well.
TYPES OF POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION IN CANADA
Any and all educational programs occurring at a level above the twelve-grade schooling system are considered post-secondary education. Types of post-secondary education include:
