LATEST NEWS ON VISA: Closing of Ireland Golden Visa Program
Ireland ended its Golden Visa program on February 15, 2023. That date marked the end of new applications. It is reviewing current applications. Ireland follows the UK, which ended its golden ticket investment route in 2020.
The Ministry of Justice said that Simon Harris, Minister for Justice, has received government authorisation to close the Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP) to new applicants.
Minister Harris remarked, “We have also taken on board a number of reports and findings from international bodies such as the EU Commission, Council of Europe, and OECD on similar investment programmes. Based on internal and external reviews, I have suggested that this Programme be closed to new applicants.
Since its start, the Immigrant Investor Programme has granted over €1.252 billion in investment for economic, social, and sporting organizations. On 15 February 2023, applications were closed.
The Program’s closure won’t affect approved projects or persons. The Department of Justice will continue to review approved projects for delivery and Programme compliance. Current applications will be reviewed after closing.
The Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP) was launched in 2012 to allow investors to obtain immigration permission to Ireland by investing a large sum of money in a project approved by the Department of Justice and other government stakeholders.
