Job Summary
This role reports to the Head of Sales and is in charge of actively focusing on business direction by planning and driving financial performance, business management, performance management, and elaborate MI processes in the CIB Corporate segment, as well as managing related market risks.
The incumbent is required to demonstrate business acumen, and risk awareness, and actively contribute to CIB Markets’ overall business strategy.
The incumbent is implicitly associated with CIB Corporate but also has duties for market sales activities, either directly or through internal engagement with all stakeholders.
Among others, the role holder will:
- Be in charge of all pricing formulation and execution for market sales, as well as providing timely and competitive prices.
- Become the primary point of contact both internally and internationally for Market Sales efforts.
- Become the link between corporate clients’ objectives and the market for FX products, strategies, and structured solutions.
- Investigate and define business prospects within the Markets Sales function.
Job Description
Strategy formulation and implementation. Management: Time split: 40%.
Outputs:
- Drives strategy creation and delivery by using formal qualitative and quantitative analytics, problem framing, value chain assessments, and market opportunity discovery.
- Assist the Head of Sales in delivering an aligned company strategy that considers financial performance, balance sheet, and risk management, as well as meeting the Sales Desk’s needed goals and objectives.
- Continuously monitor the overall business performance of the CIB Corporate Sales Desk and notify the Head of Sales of any potential deviations and the steps taken by other business units to rectify them.
- Responsible for strategic business development and planning in the CIB Corporate FX area.
- Support the Head of Sales in meeting customer service standards/experience and increasing Absa Markets’ profile/reputation across the country and sub-region, all while maintaining strong business ties within and outside of Absa.
- Identify and help unlock strategic issues in the client’s sales segments.
Research and market intelligence: Time split: 10%.
Output:
- Be a primary source of industry intelligence data across multiple disciplines, including industry evolution analysis and competitive dynamics.
- Promote the extension and penetration of CIB Markets products into clients and broaden the customer base.
Sales: Time Split: 35%.
Output:
- Establish close relationships with CIB Corporate Relationship Managers, Branch Managers, and customers.
- Meet the various volume and profit targets as established.
- Drafting the CIB Corporate Banking FX strategy plan and contributing to the overall yearly markets. Sales Business Plan
- Maintain and raise the wallet share of existing clients’ businesses year after year.
- Create and maintain a robust daily transaction pipeline to fulfill CIB Corporate Banking client demand.
- Recruit Absa Markets’ FX influx clients.
- Begin customer visits and calls. This should be demonstrated through call reports and phone call strategies.
- Participate and address concerns that may occur during weekly CIB Corporate Banking sessions.
- Attend fortnightly meetings with stakeholders (CIB Markets, Treasury, Operations, PCG, Market Risk) and contribute effectively.
- Work with CIB Corporate Relationship Managers to create and implement Account Plans.
- Increase the number of active Customers having Direct Dealing Mandates in the portfolio.
- Onboard top clients in Direct Dealing
- Call reports for all customer visits must be completed and shared within 48 hours of the visit, along with any follow-up measures.
- Maintain an excellent relationship with all internal counterparties.
Teamwork and self-management: Time split: 10%.
Output:
- Independently interact and work with senior stakeholders in the functions and company.
- Take an active and leadership position in problem-solving, particularly in areas that are likely to influence (positively or negatively) plan implementation.
- Maintain consistent communication with key stakeholders (PCG, MR, and Finance) to ensure income is properly realized and accrued.
Additional responsibilities may be allocated by the Head of Sales, including risk and control. Time split: 5%.
Output:
- Ensure that all operations and obligations are carried out in complete conformity with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards.
- Understand and manage role-specific risks and risk occurrences (incidents).
- Maintain compliance with all market risk restrictions.
- Maintain compliance with Group policies, processes, and credit restrictions.

- Understanding the political environment in Ghana.

- Experience with Markets Sales
- A practical understanding of capital market products
- Knowledge of Treasury
- A solid understanding of the workings of corporate and retail banking.
- A willingness and capacity to actively manage client relationships through on-site visits, presentations, and social gatherings.
Required prior training
- Requirements for ACI dealer certification include education and work experience.
- Basic needs – A degree holder who appreciates numerical and statistical analysis.
- Preferably a Master’s Degree holder in Finance or a related discipline, such as Economics, Business, or Commerce.
- Basic level ACI diploma
- Minimum 3 years of banking experience, 3 of which should have been in a trading environment.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas in Business, Commerce, and Management (Required)
