POSITION: Sub-National Technical Manager

Job Summary: 

The Sub-National Technical Manager will lead and help with the technical and management aspects of implementing effective nutrition programs in different areas. They will work closely with project leaders and technical experts in governance, nutrition, food systems, and resilience, as well as local staff. Their job is to help district teams plan, budget, and carry out nutrition activities that involve different sectors.

Moreover, they will also help coordinate all ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana activities in these districts. They will be in charge of finding out what technical support the staff in the region need to help local groups run effective nutrition programs. Also, they should understand the main topics related to the project well.

The Sub-National Technical Manager will report to the Deputy Chief of Party for Technical matters. The job will oversee 3-5 Regional Support Officers. These officers help by giving technical support to the areas and districts where ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana operates. The Sub-National Technical Manager will work together with people in the ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana office and the main office. The job is located in Tamale, Ghana, and will involve regular travel to the five northern regions.

Important Job Duties:

  • Give technical and management help for ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana’s activities in different regions.
  • Find out the technical requirements in different areas to make sure we carry out effective nutrition programs that involve multiple sectors.
  • Build good relationships in the areas and local governments by communicating in a helpful, respectful, and friendly way with important project partners.
  • Help local leaders understand the ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana project clearly.
  • Make sure that activities at the local level are done correctly, work well together, and are organized across areas like government, nutrition, food systems, and resilience.
  • Help improve the abilities of local organizations and groups.
  • Manage a team of Regional Support Officers by guiding them, offering help, and making sure they work together well and follow the right technical methods.
  • Make sure Regional Support Officers complete their work plans and tasks on time, stay within budget, and maintain good quality.
  • Help create yearly work plans and reports every three months and every year to send to USAID.
  • Support equal rights for all genders and include everyone in planning and carrying out activities, following the ELEVATE Nutrition Gender Strategy.
  • Help share the best ways to do things, what we’ve learned, and success stories from ELEVATE Ghana’s work.
  • Work together with the ELEVATE Nutrition home office experts on technical tasks to make sure everything follows ELEVATE Nutrition’s global standards and best practices.
  • Do other tasks as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A master’s degree or similar qualification in Public Health, Nutrition, Agriculture, Social Sciences, or a related area.
  • At least 8 years of experience in nutrition, public health, or similar areas for projects funded by donors, ideally working on programs that involve multiple sectors or focus on nutrition.
  • Has experience working with areas and local offices to plan, budget, and carry out activities.
  • Experience in helping government groups with technical support.
  • Great ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking in English.
  • Careful focus on details to make sure the data is correct and good.
  • Skill to work well with different groups of people and partners.
  • Ready to travel around Ghana, especially a lot in the five northern regions.
