Job Title: Visual Communications Contractor

About Aquaya

The Aquaya Institute (‘Aquaya’) is a nonprofit research and consultancy organization dedicated to improving global health by ensuring universal access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). We provide vital insights, data, and tools to help make educated policy, program, and financial decisions. This understanding contributes to ensuring safe water and sanitation for disadvantaged groups, hence increasing human health and well-being.

Aquaya’s portfolio includes public health, economics, technological development, and social entrepreneurship in more than 20 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. We have published or contributed to more than 40 peer-reviewed research articles, as well as countless more reports and publications.

Aquaya maintains offices in Nairobi, Kenya, and Accra, Ghana. Staff members also live in the United States, France, Uganda, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Morocco. Many of our projects involve collaboration with academic research groups and experienced consultants.

Responsibilities

As Aquaya’s portfolio of research programs expands, we are looking for a Visual Communications Contractor with a strong design focus to oversee the following important responsibilities:

  • Graphic Design and Formatting Support: Create visually appealing dissemination materials for projects and publications. Create research briefings, infographics, social media postings, videos, and other multimedia assets.
  • Format your papers in Word and PowerPoint.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all Aquaya outputs meet 508 standards and follow to project branding guidelines.
  • Photography and videography: Shoot and edit images and movies for a variety of communication platforms. Join fieldwork to chronicle research activities and field stories.
  • Collaboration: Work with Aquaya workers and partner organizations from various countries to develop content.

Qualification Required

The following qualifications are required for this position:

  • Expertise: At least two years of expertise in graphic design and communications.
  • Education: At least a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, journalism, science, or a related discipline.
  • International Development: Experience or interest in international development.
  • Product proficiency includes the ability to operate digital media products such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Microsoft Office.
  • Photography: Previous experience shooting and editing photos and videos.
  • Social Media: Experience with platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in English, with strong writing and communication abilities.

Skills and Qualities

We’re also seeking the following skills and qualities:

  • Creative and Visual Mindset: The courage to create something new.
  • Organization and time management: Excellent skills, including attention to detail and the capacity to handle many tasks.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with a small team in a fast-paced, dynamic setting while maintaining a positive and productive attitude and a sense of humour.

Compensation & Benefits

Aquaya provides a fair salary commensurate with experience. This is a contract position that can be extended up to 20 hours per week and could lead to full-time employment.
