The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Utilities Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this critical role, you will manage and maintain all site utility assets to ensure seamless factory operations. You will directly contribute to our sustainability goals by optimizing systems for steam, compressed air, water, chilling, cooling towers, and effluent treatment. This position combines technical leadership with strategic responsibility for equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

As the Utilities Engineer, you will oversee the complete utility ecosystem. Your core duties include:

  • First, you will lead and manage the on-site utility technical team, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
  • You will act as the site’s competent technical authority for all utility systems, ensuring full compliance with safety standards and legal regulations.
  • A primary focus involves liaising with production managers to coordinate the reliable supply of steam, water, compressed air, and chilled water based on operational demand.
  • Furthermore, you will supervise maintenance activities for all plant utility systems, including boilers, compressors, and effluent treatment plants.
  • You will also conduct systematic inspections to determine preventative maintenance needs and manage related service contracts.
  • Additionally, you will maintain optimal inventory levels for critical spare parts and oversee third-party service providers.
  • A crucial aspect of the role is tracking site energy consumption to control costs and lead energy-saving projects.
  • Finally, you will ensure all statutory certifications are current and manage relationships with external bodies like the Ghana Water Company.

Required Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will possess a solid engineering foundation and practical expertise:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 4–5 years of hands-on experience supervising or operating biomass and oil-fed boilers.
  • Strong self-mastery in mechanical, electrical, and utility engineering systems.
  • Proven competence in water treatment, compressed air systems, and industrial utility management.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment, process safety (Hazop), and machinery safety protocols.
  • Computer literacy, with advanced skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Competence in reliability engineering, predictive maintenance, and maintenance strategy.
  • Candidates should ideally be between 25 and 35 years of age.
