Full Job Description
ASR Group is the biggest company in the world that refines and sells cane sugar. Each year, they can make more than 6 million tons of sugar. The company makes a full line of sweeteners for grocery stores, industrial use, food service, and special uses. The ASR Group owns and operates six sugar refineries in North America. These plants are in Louisiana, New York, California, Maryland, Canada, and Mexico. In England and Portugal, which are both parts of the European Union, the company owns and runs sugar refineries.
The ASR Group also owns and operates mills in Mexico and Belize. The company owns a number of well-known brands, including Domino®, C&H®, Redpath®, Tate & Lyle®, Lyle’s®, and Sidul®.
Overview
The Packaging Laborer may be put in charge of different tasks related to packing, cleaning, or reprocessing. The Packaging Laborer can work at any station or place in the packaging department. This is an entry-level job that requires heavy work all the time. Hand, arm, and body movements may be asked to be done over and over again.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- The position does the work needed to package, seal, and move sugar packages and products from different packing stations that weigh between 1 and 2000 pounds.
- Tasks at a station could include checking the weight, cutting in damaged packages, cleaning the station, sorting and stacking station materials and packaging containers, lifting packages that weigh between 24 and 50 pounds to hand-palletize them and check the weight, and doing other tasks as needed.
- Uses an industrial hand truck to move materials on pallets.
Job Requirements:
- Shifts must change every two weeks between day, swing, and graveyard. As planned, overtime is needed every day and every week.
- Positions require people to stand and walk for 6-8 or more hours a day, be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to grab, push, and pull.
- PPE, like safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, and a hard hat, are needed for the job.
- Also, Packaging stations are noisy (you need hearing protection) and have other conditions that are typical of a place where food is packed. A packaging worker has to deal with refined sugar and sugar dust, cleaning soaps, lubricants, and equipment that moves.
Pay per hour: $22.48
