Responsibilities of a Veterinary Receptionist

Veterinary receptionists perform essential duties similar to other receptionists but focus on managing client visits at a veterinary practice. Here are some typical responsibilities:

• Greet Clients: Welcome clients warmly as they arrive.
• Maintain Order: Keep the waiting room organized and tidy.
• Schedule Appointments: Arrange consultations, procedures, and follow-up care.
• Billing: Generate invoices and receive payments using billing software.
• Answer Calls: Respond to phone calls and emails from clients.
• Clean Reception: Ensure the reception area remains clean and presentable.
• Comfort Pets and Owners: Provide support to distressed animals and their owners.
• Update Records: Note patient information and update records accurately.
• Notify Vet: Alert the veterinarian about emergency cases needing immediate attention.
• Monitor Inventory: Keep track of medical supplies and assist with purchasing.
• Coordinate with Labs: Manage the delivery and collection of samples.
• Assist with Patient Care: Help with feeding animals and general care tasks.
• Support Staff: Assist other team members in preparing examination rooms.
• Sell Products: Promote and sell pet food and grooming supplies offered by the clinic.

Requirements and Qualifications

To qualify for this role, you should meet the following criteria:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Veterinary technician certification or license preferred.
• Experience with AVImark is a plus.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Basic math skills and computer literacy.
• Comfortable working with animals.
