VACANCY: OPTOMETRIST I
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the above position in the Ministry of Health, Department of Health Service Management, tenable at various facilities
- VACANCY NO: 26 of 2022
- SALARY: D1233 140.00-P281,640.00 per annum
BENEFITS:
- Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50s, Employee pays)
- A contract of 34-36 months with gratuity of 30% payable at the end of contract.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Minimum qualification of bec Optometry, Honors in Optometry, Bachelor of Optometry, Bachelor of Optometry with Honors Doctor of Optometry
- Any additional qualification will be an added advantage with Internship Experiencer At least two years post qualification experience at Senior Optometrist level
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To investigate, diagnose and treat sight related problems and detect early signs of systemic diseases linked to the eye under supervision.

LEAVE: 30 working days per annum
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Firstly, As the refractive status of patients, Performs Bacan ultrasonography on patients with pille sterior Vitreous Detachment and Retinal Detachment.
- Secondly, Prescribes optical aids, ocular medication and therapeutic interventions based on diagnoses
- Thirdly, Rehabilitates pediatrics with low vision problems.
- Moreover, Performs cycloplegic refraction and investigates further binocular vision anomalies and learning disabilities such as dyslexia
- Additionally, Advises and counsels un patients ocular status and treatment to be rendered.
- Then, Conducts public campaign en eye care.
- Also, Maintains logbook of ocular based on go demographics.
- More so, Maintain up-to-date optometry records the department.
- Afterwards, Analyses the appropriateness of educational materials for eye care
- Last but not least, Participate in departmental research project.
- Finally, Prepares the budget for the unit.
