Job Title: Director of Finance

Role Overview

In this position, you will lead the Directorate of Finance and coordinate all financial activities across the University. You will also guide policy implementation and ensure compliance with financial regulations. At the same time, you will strengthen internal controls and support sustainable financial planning.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will cover a wide range of financial management functions, including:

  • Oversee the general administration of all financial and accounting activities within the University
  • Develop and implement effective accounting systems and procedures that support operational efficiency
  • Manage special advances and imprest accounts with accuracy and accountability
  • Supervise all receivables and payables, both local and international
  • Monitor the work of revenue collectors to prevent fraud, embezzlement, and financial irregularities
  • Ensure proper documentation and safekeeping of all financial records
  • Lead and coordinate activities across all sections within the Directorate of Finance
  • Provide financial insights that support decision making at the highest level

Required Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates must demonstrate strong academic and professional credentials. Requirements include:

  • Postgraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit, or a related field
  • Membership in a recognized professional accounting body such as ICA, ACCA, or CIMA
  • Minimum of ten years professional experience after qualification
  • Prior experience serving as Deputy Director of Finance within a university setting
  • Strong understanding of financial administration in higher education institutions

In addition, candidates should demonstrate the ability to lead teams, manage complex financial systems, and maintain high ethical standards.

Tenure and Conditions of Service

The successful candidate will serve an initial term of four years. The University may consider renewal for an additional term of up to three years, provided the candidate remains within the statutory retirement age.
