Underground Mining Alliance Ltd. (“UMA”) is a joint venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International that conducts underground development and production for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.
Job Description
UMA is looking for a skilled, experienced, and driven Electrical Pump Fitter to join our Electrical Team. This is a fixed-term position in Obuasi with a competitive work schedule at the company’s Obuasi location. The successful candidate will report to the Electrical Foreman and be in charge of installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical pump systems that are critical to our mining operations. This position requires a proactive and safety-conscious worker with extensive experience with electrical and mechanical pump systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, examine, and repair a variety of pumps, including submersible, centrifugal, and diaphragm pumps, which are necessary for water and slurry flow.
- Set up pumps and associated equipment in accordance with mining operations requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance and preventive steps to reduce equipment downtime.
- Troubleshoot and repair pump systems and associated electrical circuits, guaranteeing timely repairs such as part replacement, rewiring, and system recalibration with little downtime.
- Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to diagnose and discover electrical or mechanical problems.
- Test electrical components with multimeters, insulation testers, and other diagnostic equipment.
- Inspect and test electrical components to ensure they meet safety standards and operate efficiently.
- Keep accurate records of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain compliance with electrical codes, standards, and safety restrictions.
- Monitor performance and report on system operations to quickly detect and resolve concerns.
- To avoid accidents, follow all mining safety rules and use suitable personal protective equipment (PPE), as well as safety standards.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a safe workplace.
- Complete numerous daily, weekly, and monthly reports as needed.
- Be open to learning new approaches, and willing to share your skills and information with coworkers.
- Maintain excellent levels of housekeeping in the shop and on-job locations.
Required Skill or Experience
- BSc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from a recognized University with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mines, or Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mine.
- Must understand the Mining Act and the relevant Republic of Ghana laws.
- Must have a valid Ghanaian driving and operating license (C & E Classes) and the ability to operate a manual SUV underground.
- Capable of handling equipment, working in cramped quarters, and adapting to site conditions.
- Ability to influence and engage with operational and non-operational staff and contractors, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills, as well as analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with electrical pump systems, circuits, and mechanical components.
- Ability to read and understand technical diagrams and schematics.
- Experience with multimeters, diagnostic software, and electrical testing equipment.
- Capable of swiftly learning new jobs and training, coaching, and mentoring crew members.
- Ability to work under pressure and have the desire to succeed.
- A high emphasis on safety and hazard identification.
- Strong sense of urgency and outcome-focused
- Requirements include cross-cultural experience and the ability to work both day and night.
