POSITION: National Coordinator

Company Profile

Shea Network Ghana (SNG) is a dynamic organization that brings together shea sector enterprises, stakeholders, and value chain actors. Established in 2010, SNG is a uniting force in Ghana’s shea business, dedicated to influencing legislation, resolving sector-wide difficulties, and supporting coordinated growth. SNG, headquartered in Tamale, at the heart of Shea-producing villages, has a decade of experience implementing impactful projects focused on increasing industry exposure, promoting shea collector inclusion, and conserving Ghana’s shea resources.

Position Overview

SNG needs an ambitious and experienced National Coordinator. The National Coordinator, who reports to the SNG Board, will efficiently manage the SNG Secretariat and drive the organization’s strategic goal. Excellent leadership, fundraising, networking, and a strong commitment to promote shea sector collaboration and progress are required.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provide visionary leadership and implement the Board’s strategic direction to propel the organization toward its objectives.
  • Represent SNG and express its mission, values, and objectives to stakeholders at national and international levels in partnership with the Board.
  • Assume overall managerial responsibility for the SNG Secretariat, ensuring its smooth operation and efficient use of resources.
  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to help the organization achieve its goals.
  • Represent SNG and express its mission, principles, and objectives to national and international stakeholders.
  • Serve as the principal interface between SNG and external partners, cultivating collaborative connections and alliances.

Value Chain Coordination

  • Explore and develop innovation that will assist members to access markets both locally and worldwide, such as the facilitation and organization of trade fairs and other similar activities.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of a Membership—Drive Strategy to broaden SNG’s reach and improve industry representation.
  • Coordinate project actions targeted at increasing industry exposure, including shea collectors, and conserving shea resources.
  • Facilitate the organization and execution of SNG Annual General Meetings to engage stakeholders, assess progress, and plan future projects.
  • Collaborate with national and international networks to promote synergies, share best practices, and advocate for the shea value chain.

Policy Implementation

  • Conduct a complete assessment of the shea industry’s policy environment and identify the relevant policy challenges. Advocacy
  • Take a proactive approach to exploring financing opportunities by expressing interest and developing proposals to support SNG’s objectives.
  • Facilitate periodic planning and meetings to evaluate accomplishments, identify difficulties, and develop policy advocacy initiatives.
  • Undertake any assignments that are technically appropriate and fall within the purview of the Network Executive Board to achieve SNG’s policy objectives.
  • Fund-raising and Sustainability
  • Take a proactive approach to exploring financing opportunities by expressing interest and developing proposals to support SNG’s objectives.
  • Introduce a strategy to attract members to pay dues, as well as examine fee payment for conferences.

Required Skill or Experience

  • Master’s Degree in a Relevant Field
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of leadership or managerial experience in the development sector, preferably in agriculture, rural development, or a similar topic.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and presenting skills.
  • Strong understanding of policy advocacy and demonstrated ability to persuade decision makers.
  • Ability to operate well in a multicultural setting and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Ghana’s shea sector or similar agricultural value chains is beneficial.

  • Self-starter: Being able to drive the job with minimal supervision.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to provide visionary leadership and strategic direction, emphasizing collaboration, creativity, and results-driven decision-making.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and writing communication skills, including the ability to successfully explain ideas, persuade stakeholders, and represent the company in a variety of settings and events.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive relationships with government agencies, NGOs, donors, commercial sector partners, and community leaders.
  • Fundraising and Resource Mobilization: Proven track record of identifying funding possibilities, developing grant submissions, and nurturing relationships with donors and funding agencies to acquire financial assistance for organizational activities.
  • Policy Advocacy: Knowledge of policy processes and advocacy strategies, as well as the ability to assess policy concerns, organize advocacy campaigns, and engage legislators to impact shea value chain-beneficial policy decisions.
  • Team developing and Management: Leader who builds and manages high-performing teams, promotes collaboration, and coaches and develops personnel.
  • Strategic Thinking: The ability to think strategically, forecast future trends and challenges, and innovate solutions to complex shea sector concerns while meeting company goals.
  • Cross-Cultural Competence: The capacity to operate well in a multicultural context while remaining culturally sensitive and adaptable, with a strong regard for local cultures, traditions, and perspectives.
  • Problem-Solving: An analytical mindset capable of identifying problems, evaluating options, and developing practical solutions to overcome obstacles and achieve corporate goals.
  • Networking and Partnership Development: Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with national and international organizations, networks, and alliances to leverage resources, share expertise, and increase impact.
