POSITION: Regional Financial Controller (WARO) 

Pacific International Lines (PIL), a global leader with over 55 years in the shipping industry, seeks a proactive Regional Financial Controller for West Africa (WARO). We are pioneering sustainable shipping solutions and invite innovative professionals to join our dynamic team. This senior role, based in Accra, Ghana, offers strategic financial leadership across multiple countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire, reporting directly to the WARO Regional Head.

Role Overview and Impact

As the Regional Financial Controller, you will act as a strategic business partner, providing oversight and integrity for all financial information in the region. You will guide financial strategy, support global transformation initiatives, and build a high-performing finance organization to drive business growth.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Your role encompasses comprehensive financial management and strategic leadership.

Financial Performance and Strategy

  • Ensure all agencies maintain accurate, timely financial records and comply with reporting standards.
  • Monitor country-level financial performance, analyze key metrics, and drive improvement actions.
  • Provide senior management with actionable financial analysis and insights for decision-making.
  • Guide agencies through annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling for strategic investments.

Control, Governance, and Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Conduct periodic compliance reviews and implement finance change initiatives locally and globally.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external auditors, ensuring adherence to audit requirements.
  • Identify regional risks and opportunities, working with HQ to implement risk management frameworks.

Process Improvement and Team Leadership

  • Lead initiatives to standardize financial processes and best practices across the region.
  • Continuously improve financial systems, procedures, and business processes.
  • Oversee treasury, cash management, and collaborate with Group Tax on planning strategies.
  • Mentor and develop the finance team, enhancing their technical, communication, and management skills.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidates must possess a professional qualification such as CA or its equivalent.
  • Have at least ten years of relevant Finance Controller experience, preferably within the shipping sector in Africa.
  • Demonstrate experience in Principal/Agency accounting and a strong knowledge of accounting standards, internal controls, and tax laws.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills in English (fluency in French is a strong advantage).
  • Show proven senior stakeholder management experience, with the ability to influence cross functionally in a matrix structure.
  • Have a track record of leading and developing diverse teams.
