Role Title: National Postharvest Specialist
Job Summary
The Postharvest Specialist will work with other technical members to contribute to FAO’s strategic framework; BP4 (Small-scale producers’ equitable access to resources) by trying to improve women’s and men’s access to financial and economic resources, markets, services, information, education, and technologies in soyabean production; and BL1 (Gender equality and rural women’s empowerment), which will help make rural areas more inclusive and change the way they work.
The goal of the project is to help the environment by promoting an agri-food system that reduces the effects of climate change by using smart ways to grow soyabeans and builds the resilience of soyabean farmers. This will be done with the help of solar-powered irrigation systems, land development, and other methods (Better Environment BE1: Climate Change Mitigation and Adapted Agri-Food Systems).
Tasks and obligations
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative to Ghana and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative in charge of the Program and Lead Technical Officer, the person in this job will do the following:
- Make training materials and work with FAO to teach project partners and beneficiaries how to handle soyabeans better after harvesting, such as how to harvest, thresh, etc.;
- Help promote postharvest technologies and green storage of soyabean;
- Coordinate training of project partners and project beneficiaries on how to include soyabean recipes in household diets and school meals;
- Support training of water users association production, marketing, and financial management;
- Help develop letters of agreement, TORs, and bill of quantities to hire service providers;

THE FOLLOWING WILL BE USED TO ASSESS CANDIDATES:
The bare minimums
- Advanced university degree in agriculture, agronomy, agribusiness, or a related field;
- 5 years of relevant experience in project management; and at least 1 year of experience managing emergency food security and livelihood projects.
- Know enough English to get by.
- Be a citizen of Ghana or a legal resident of the country.

Technical/Functional Skills
- The job requires good technical knowledge of the soyabean value chains in Ghana;
- Extensive and relevant experience in project management and coordination;
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of inputs credit schemes, VSLAs, market-oriented agriculture schemes, and water users associations.
- How much and how well the candidate knows how to manage computer programs like Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical software.
- How good the candidate is at verbal and written communication, negotiation, leadership, vision, strategy, coordination, and teamwork.
- If the candidate has worked with small-scale farmers in northern Ghana, that will be a plus
