Job Vacancies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, is pleased to announce the availability of the following vacancies, effective from 1st November 2024. This information is intended for the Academic Community and the General Public.

1. Director, School of Graduate Studies (SGS)

Job Summary

The Director of Graduate Studies is the School’s Head. The Director is responsible for leading the School and maintaining and supporting good governance under the University’s Act and Statutes.

Requirements

  • Must be a Professor or have a comparable grade.
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to further the University’s aim of being the premier hub for applied research and innovation.
  • Must be able to work with industry and other key stakeholders to translate research findings into real, valuable resources that benefit the country.
  • Must be able to secure grants and finances for the Graduate Students Research Fund (GreF) and implement creative activities to change the School of Graduate Studies.
  • Must be a distinguished scholar with the ability to motivate and direct personnel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as sound and impartial judgment.

Terms of appointment

  • The full-time appointment shall be for three (3) years in the first instance before reaching the mandatory retirement age of sixty (60). The appointment may be renewed for an additional three (3) years (after performance appraisal), for a total of six (6) years. Following the Six-Year Term, the Candidate may choose to become a Faculty Member.
  • The salary and fringe benefits related to the position are appealing.

2. Director, Institute of Distance Learning (IDL)

Job Summary

  • The Director serves as the Institute’s head. He will provide leadership and promote efficiency and good governance for the Institute, which has Teaching and Learning Centres in ten (10) of the sixteen (16) regions and over 15,000 students nationwide.
  • The Institute of Distance Learning offers quality, flexible, and demand-driven continuing tertiary education programs via a blended strategy of face-to-face and online delivery sessions.

Requirements

  • Must have a Professorial rank or similar grade.
  • Must be driven to create and implement innovative tools and platforms to improve the distance learning education experience through technological advancements.
  • A strategic plan must be in place to ensure that the IDL’s technical infrastructure supports the efficient delivery of distance learning programs while also strengthening the Institute’s online presence.
  • Must be able to find external funding sources, such as grants and partnerships, to support distance learning initiatives.
  • Must be able to use information technology to provide professional development opportunities that improve teaching effectiveness and technological proficiency, while also expanding the scope of the Institute.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as sound and impartial judgment.

3. Director of University Health Services

Job Summary

The Vice-Chancellor holds the Director of University Health Services accountable for leading, encouraging efficiency, and maintaining good governance under University policy. The Director ensures medical students’ clinical training at the University Hospital is conducive.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be a certified Medical Officer registered with and in good standing with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council or an equivalent recognized professional body, with at least fifteen (15) years of post-qualification experience in the practice of medicine or dentistry.
  • Possess a postgraduate degree in a related subject of study from a recognized higher education institution.
  • Must be a member or fellow of a recognized professional body.
  • Must be above reproach and possess a strong sense of industry, leadership abilities, and organizational skills in the Health Delivery Sector.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of experience as a Consultant or Principal Medical Officer in a University, Ghana Health Service, or equivalent institution.

Terms of appointment

  • The full-time appointment shall be for FIVE (5) YEARS in the first instance, before reaching the statutory retirement age of SIXTY.
  • The appointment may be renewed for an additional period of up to five (5) years following a performance appraisal by the University Council.
