POSITION: Electrician
Position Summary
UMA is looking to hire a skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic Electrician to become part of our Electrical Team. This is a Fixed-term role located in Obuasi with a competitive schedule at its operations in Obuasi. Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, the chosen candidate will ensure their safety and that of their colleagues while maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all underground electrical systems and equipment. The incumbent will emphasize compliance to guarantee that all personnel, including employees and subcontractors, possess the necessary skills to work safely and effectively.
Primary Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inductions to ensure that all employees and contractors are compliant with site regulations and capable of carrying out the necessary tasks and/or roles.
- Perform planned electrical maintenance according to manufacturer guidelines, the Electrical Code, while adhering to company and client standard operating procedures and safety protocols.
- Identify and arrange the necessary resources for each task, including tools and equipment, extra personnel, or assistants, to guarantee efficient and prompt task completion while maximizing productivity.
- Fill out all service sheets and record any extra repairs carried out for each job.
- Identify and foresee any issues or possible malfunctions and suggest solutions.
- Review and understand service and spare parts manuals.
- Perform routine checks on systems and necessary tools.
- Prepare different daily, weekly, and monthly reports as needed.
- Stay receptive to discovering new techniques and be ready to share your expertise and insights with colleagues.
- Keep elevated levels of cleanliness in the store and at work locations.
Required Skills or Experience
- Must have at least a B.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from an accredited University with at least 5 years of experience in Hard Rock Underground Mines, or a Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Hard Rock Underground Mines.
- Should be knowledgeable about the Mining Act and associated regulations of the Republic of Ghana.
- Must have a valid Ghanaian driving license (Classes C & E) and be capable of driving a manual SUV underground.
- Capability to affect and connect with both operational and non-operational staff and contractors, showcasing robust communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Must exhibit robust work ethics and be capable of interacting politely with colleagues.
- Proven skills to function effectively in a team setting with leadership qualities.
- Robust organizational, planning, and time management abilities, along with analytical and problem-solving competencies.
- Capacity to rapidly acquire new skills and also instruct, guide, and support team members.
- Capability to operate under stress and possess the motivation to succeed.
- A significant emphasis on safety and the identification of hazards.
- Acute sense of immediacy and results-driven.
- Capacity to operate in a multicultural setting
- Capability to work during both daytime and nighttime.
