Job Title: Head, Business Desk

The Opportunity

We are seeking a visionary Head for our Business Desk. This senior leadership role carries the dual mandate of establishing market dominance and driving top-tier revenue performance. You will position the desk as the foremost authority in business news while cultivating a powerful, positive influence within the corporate community. Your leadership will build a high-performing, competitive team anchored by the core brand pillar of ‘Credibility’.

Key Accountabilities

You will have full operational and strategic oversight of the Business Desk. Your primary responsibilities will include:

First, you will manage the daily operations and overall leadership of the Business Desk, ensuring seamless content delivery across all platforms.
You will lead the planning and execution of all desk projects designed to achieve market leadership, audience growth, and significant revenue increase.
A central duty involves collaborating with senior management to develop and implement the comprehensive business news strategy.
Furthermore, you will proactively research business programming trends and audience needs to enhance productivity and service quality.
You will also drive innovation by creating brand extensions for existing programs and developing bespoke, high-impact content.
Additionally, you will provide direct leadership, motivation, and mentorship to your team to ensure all objectives are met.
You will lead recruitment, manage team welfare, and foster a positive sub-culture that aligns with the organization’s overarching values.
Crucially, you will ensure all content and team activities comply with relevant laws, editorial guidelines, the GJA code of ethics, and our internal code of conduct.

Your success will be measured by:

Clear market leadership, increased influence, and measurable growth in market share.
Strong financial performance, including consistent revenue growth and profitability.
High levels of audience and client satisfaction.
The unwavering preservation of brand integrity and reputation.

Maintaining 100% quality control in all editorial content and language.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate is an established media leader with a strong business acumen:

A First Degree in Business Management, Communications, Social Sciences, or a related field. Equivalent substantial journalism experience will also be considered.
A minimum of five years in a news editor or related supervisory role within a reputable media organization.
Proven operational experience across television, online, and other relevant media platforms.
Demonstrated marketing or brand management experience.
A strong strategic mindset with excellent analytical abilities.
An established network within Corporate Entities, Advertisers, Government Agencies, and Civil Society Organizations.
A deep understanding and acceptance of the media business model.
