Job Description
Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC), a network of around 200 civil society organizations engaged in the education sector, is looking for a detail-oriented and inventive COMMUNICATION AND ADVOCACY SPECIALIST.
GNECC is committed to promoting and advocating for equal access to quality education for all Ghanaians through effective policy participation, networking, research, and monitoring.
JOB PROFILE
The Communication and Advocacy Specialist is in charge of establishing partnerships with media outlets related to the organization’s strategic goals, resulting in increased coverage of our stories in the media. This involves creating and implementing communication plans, producing and editing items like press releases, newsletters, and social media postings, managing media interactions, and coordinating events and public relations activities. The position is situated in Accra but may involve occasional travel to project sites. The Communication and Advocacy Specialist will report to the National Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement communication strategies.
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that are consistent with GNECC’s aims and objectives.
- Create and distribute important messaging, press releases, newsletters, and other communication pieces to help GNECC promote its projects and advocacy efforts.
Media Relations and Outreach
- Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and other key stakeholders to ensure that GNECC’s activities and advocacy concerns are covered.
- Organize press conferences, media briefings, and interviews to increase GNECC visibility and impact.
Advocacy Campaigns
- Plan, execute, and monitor advocacy initiatives on important education issues in Ghana.
- Create advocacy documents including policy briefs, fact sheets, and position papers to persuade policymakers, stakeholders, and the public.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with important stakeholders such as government officials, NGOs, community leaders, and development partners to encourage collaboration and support for GNECC’s goals.
- Represent GNECC at meetings, forums, and events to promote educational changes and policies.
Digital Communication and Social Media Management
- Manage GNECC’s social media platforms and website to boost its online visibility and engagement.
- Create digital content including blogs, videos, and infographics to effectively convey GNECC’s message.
Capacity Building and Training
Organize workshops, training sessions, and seminars to help GNECC personnel and partners improve their communication and advocacy abilities.
Encourage the creation of communication and advocacy toolkits and resources.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Monitor and evaluate the success of communication and advocacy campaigns.
- Provide regular reporting on campaign impact and offer modifications based on input and outcomes.
Content Creation and Documentation
- Prepare speeches, presentations, and reports for GNECC meetings and leadership.
- Document GNECC’s operations, success stories, and effects for both internal and external stakeholders.
Collaboration between Program Teams
- Work closely with program teams to ensure that communication and advocacy efforts are in line with ongoing programs and initiatives.
- Ensure that communication tactics are integrated into programming work to maximize overall impact.
Required Skill or Experience
Knowledge
- Must have a solid understanding of communication principles and methods, such as public relations, media relations, marketing, and branding. They should also be familiar with the NGO business, products or services, and target audience.
- Knowledge about Ghana’s school system
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in communications, public relations, administration, marketing, or a similar profession.
- Proven communication and advocacy experience, preferably in a non-profit or educational setting.
- Experience creating and implementing communication plans and strategies.
- Experience managing media relations, which includes responding to media inquiries, and coordinating interviews, and news conferences.

- The ability to multitask and prioritize projects.
- Pay attention to detail.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations/administration, journalism, marketing, or another relevant field is required.
- A master’s degree or professional certification in communication is advantageous.
