POSITION: Planning Forester

Position Summary

We are looking for an energetic, skilled, and driven Planning Forester to oversee spatial and operational planning for our bamboo-focused carbon removal initiatives in Ghana. This position is essential for achieving effective land-use design, planning for reforestation, and aligning field activities with Annual Operation Plans (AOP). The perfect applicant will possess robust forest management and GIS expertise, and have a strong enthusiasm for climate and landscape restoration.

Main Duties

  • Planning C Spatial Analysis Compartments
  • Create and uphold a compartment register continuously.
  • Create and sustain a dashboard with field activity data sets continuously. Partner with field teams to incorporate ground-truthing information into spatial planning processes.
  • Carbon Initiatives and Operational Strategy
  • Assist in baseline evaluations and biomass carbon stock calculations by performing biomass monitoring.
  • Sustaining the existing permanent sample plots (PSPs) for biomass assessment.
  • Provide weekly operational reports to the senior management group.
  • Guarantee compliance with SOPs and appropriate techniques for all activities in the field and nursery.
  • Field C Nursery Oversight and Quality Management
  • Perform weekly quality assurance inspections in the field and nursery.
  • Oversee weekly reports of nursery and field data, guaranteeing precision and prompt submission.
  • Review monitoring outcomes and strategies with field and nursery teams to enhance performance.
  • Supervision, Documentation, and Verification (SDV)
  • Assist in the execution of MRV frameworks and protocols in Ghana.
  • Guarantee the integrity of field data.
  • Assist in the execution of compliance audits.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree at minimum in forestry, agriculture, environmental studies, or natural resource management is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey 123, ArcGIS Quick Capture).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a pertinent position, preferably with experience in:
    • Reforestation or agroforestry initiatives.
    • Carbon capture or solutions based on nature.
    • Territorial organization and land-use planning.
  • Knowledge of carbon project standards and methodologies is a valuable advantage.
