POSITION: Programs Officer
The Africa Assistance Plan (AAP) Ghana is a Christian NGO dedicated to eradicating all kinds of poverty in Africa by empowering communities and equipping churches through comprehensive development. For more than 40 years, AAP has led the way in fostering transformative change in Ghana and beyond through initiatives focused on child and youth empowerment, community and church development, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
Job Description
AAP Ghana is presently looking for a dedicated and skilled Programs Officer to assist our expanding efforts in promoting community-driven development projects. The perfect candidate will show a strong dedication to our faith-driven mission and be enthusiastic about helping to establish sustainable initiatives that support at-risk communities and encourage enduring change.
Main Duties
Program Creation and Execution:
- Support the design, planning, and implementation of comprehensive development initiatives that align with AAP’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Assist in executing projects related to child and youth development, Christian education, WASH, and church/community empowerment.
- Collaborate with community leaders, local partners, and church stakeholders to guarantee culturally appropriate and context-specific program implementation.
Oversight, Assessment, and Documentation:
- Work together with the M&E team to gather pertinent data and assess program effectiveness.
- Assist in producing timely and precise program reports, success narratives, and case studies for internal purposes and donor reporting.
- Assist in learning and adjustment processes to enhance upcoming programming.
Stakeholder Involvement and Community Activation:
- Build robust connections with beneficiary communities, faith organizations, local government entities, and NGOs.
- Organize workshops for community involvement, training programs, and public awareness activities.
- Confirm that programs are connected to community needs and promote participation and inclusivity.
Mobilization of Resources and Communication:
- Help in developing concept notes and contributions for funding proposals.
- Assist in developing communication materials like newsletters, project summaries, and impact narratives that embody AAP’s voice and principles.
- Collaborate with communication team members to improve the visibility and influence of AAP’s activities.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Carry out additional tasks that may be delegated by the Programs Director or management as needed.
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Welfare, Public Health, Theology, Project Management, or a similar field.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in roles related to NGO project execution or community development.
- Exhibited enthusiasm for Christian service and community change.
- Excellent interpersonal and facilitation abilities, backed by experience in connecting with grassroots communities.
- Outstanding written and oral communication abilities in English; familiarity with local languages is a bonus.
- Capability to function autonomously and collaboratively, possessing excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Skillful in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Readiness to travel to remote project locations.
