POSITION: Customer Service Representative

Job Description

In order to conduct customer service tasks, intermediate-level instructions must be followed while adhering to established processes. Performs job activities with minimal analysis and problem-solving abilities. Duties include data entry, filing, directing phone calls to the right person, and so forth. Serves as a role model in carrying out the Church’s religious mission with compassion for people and devotion to God, while executing jobs requiring intermediate knowledge and judgment.

Responsibilities

Our Customer Service Agents engage in a number of activities, including:

  • Providing professional advice and guidance to FamilySearch users via email, chat, and phone conversations.
  • Assisting with various family history projects that prepare records for indexing and publication on FamilySearch.org.
  • Receiving basic and specific training in areas of focus (indexing, patron help, Family Tree, FamilySearch sign-in, record and image audits, FamilySearch locations, and so on).
  • As a FamilySearch Operations missionary, you will be assigned to a group that will coordinate training, devotionals, and contacts with other missionaries.
  • Maintaining a cheerful, compassionate, and professional attitude toward customers at all times.
  • Tracking (data on patron interactions) and report analysis.
  • Learning about and understanding supported items.
  • Assisting with numerous special projects for FamilySearch International in Africa.
  • Contributing to process improvement for Africa’s patron services

Qualifications

  • Must be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and deserving of temple recommendations.
  • Bachelor’s, HND, and associate’s degrees with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a specialized or related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience;
  • Detail-oriented – able to look for and identify little discrepancies in data.
  • Intermediate computer capabilities (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentation software, Internet search, good typing abilities, etc.)
  • Excellent customer service and great interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to address common concerns and problems while referring more complicated matters to higher levels.
  • Fluency in the written and spoken English and French languages of West African countries is essential.
  • Strong technical skills, including the ability to learn new software and web applications fast and train others.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and installation is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and vocal
  • A readiness to collaborate within a team.
  • A love of family history and expertise in tracing your ancestors are desired.
  • Capable of scheduling and monitoring project progress, as well as production workflow.
  • Experience managing an office or production setting.
  • Genealogical experience is beneficial, but not required.
