Job Announcement at Tony Blair Institute for Global Change

Job Title: Director of Global Politics

At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, we work with political leaders all over the world to bring about change. We help governments make their big ideas come true so that they can help their people. Also, We do this by advising on strategy, policy, and delivery, and by using technology to unlock the power of all three. We can help everyone by sharing what we learn on the ground. We do this so that people everywhere can live in countries that are more open, welcoming, and wealthy.

Moreover, We are a team of nearly 800 people who want to make a difference. We work in more than 30 countries on five continents. We are political strategists, experts on policy, experts on getting things done, technology experts, and more. More than 45 languages are spoken here. We are working on more than 100 projects that try to solve some of the biggest problems in the world. All of us at TBI are here to make a difference.

We think that having different backgrounds and points of view is a strength in a world where problems are getting harder and harder to solve. We’re proud that our culture values and encourages differences. We work hard to bring out the best in everyone on our team and in the countries where we work. No matter where you come from or who you are, if you believe in the power of progressive politics to change things, we want you to help us build a better future.

Job Introduction

The Policy and Politics division is an important part of the Institute, just like the Advisory and Strategy and Partnerships divisions. TBI’s original research and thinking on the most important questions for leaders are led by policy and political experts in London and around the world.

The Policy and Politics division makes analysis that shapes public debate, helps governments do their jobs better, and supports partnerships that make people’s lives better. Our work is on a global scale, but we also work on national strategies, such as our flagship program Future of Britain.

We think that progressives around the world could work together on a common agenda, but it would take a concerted effort and coordination to make that happen. This role is a one-of-a-kind chance to bring that to the Tony Blair Institute, putting it at the center of the global renewal of progressive politics and putting it at the forefront of thought leadership and a new, forward-looking agenda. It needs someone who is self-motivated and already has a political network, preferably around the world but at least in their own country.

The job will require a lot of collaboration within the company. This is because a good idea can come from anywhere, but it takes leadership to find the right answers quickly. Collaboration also happens outside of the Institute, because it is understood that reviving progressive politics requires working with other groups and not trying to “own” this agenda.

If we get this right, we won’t be able to be pushed around by right-wing and left-wing populists who offer easy answers to hard problems. We’ll be working with similar organizations all over the world. We’ll share our thoughts on the problems we face and, for the first time in a long time, agree on solutions and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

The person who fills this job will do the following:

  • Together with ED, Politics, come up with a strategy and plan for the global renewal of progressive politics.
  • Help the ED, Politics, and Executive Chairman build a network of progressive parties and organizations and take care of them.
  • Coordinate your work with this group of parties and organizations that support progress.
  • Work with the Policy and Politics team to create thought leadership and a progressive agenda that attracts progressive parties and organizations.
  • Set up and run engagement activities around the world, including a conference on the Future of Progressive Politics in the middle term.
  • Use the Future of Britain program as a model for a progressive politics offer around the world.
