Japan Graduate Long-term Student Exchange Program 2025-2026
Niigata University is excited to announce the opening of applications for its prestigious Graduate Long-term Student Exchange Program for the academic year 2025-2026. This remarkable initiative is a key component of the G-DORM Project, fostering collaboration between Niigata University and four respected partner institutions from the Mekong region: the Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia, the National University of Laos, Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam.
This comprehensive one-year exchange program will run from September 22, 2025, to September 19, 2026, offering a unique and immersive experience for students. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, attend a variety of academic classes designed to broaden their knowledge and undertake internships that connect them with industry practices in Japan.
The program aims to cultivate cross-cultural understanding and enhance academic and professional networks among students from diverse backgrounds, all while allowing them to experience the rich culture and innovative academic environment of Japan. It’s an exciting chance for aspiring scholars to expand their horizons, build valuable skills, and contribute to global dialogue in their fields of study.
Benefits of Scholarships
The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) will provide financial support to chosen students. A maximum of six students from the involved universities will receive a monthly allowance of up to 80,000 JPY (around $540 USD) to assist with vital living costs for a duration of up to 12 months.
Eligibility Requirements
The program is available to graduate students from partner universities who satisfy the following requirements:
- Must remain registered in a Master’s or Doctoral program at their home institution during the exchange.
- Should possess an academic performance score no lower than 2.30 points (calculated according to the JASSO scholarship formula).
- Must show excellent English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Should be in sound physical and mental condition.
- Should be capable of acquiring a passport and visa on their own.
- Should maintain an optimistic outlook on educational partnership and cultural sharing.
- Parental or guarantor consent is required for participation in the program.
Academic & Research Activities
The curriculum of the program includes a well-organized academic framework consisting of:
- Group Work (GW) Internships: Experiential learning through projects at companies in Niigata.
- Laboratory Work (Study-Project-Research): Investigations related to the student’s area of expertise.
- Specialized Courses: Classes focused on primary topics, the Japanese language, and intercultural studies.
- Certificate of Completion: Students will obtain an official certificate from Niigata University.
How to Apply for Japan Graduate Long-term Student Exchange Program 2025-2026
Students are required to follow these steps:
Pre-register before April 13, 2025: Complete the Application Form according to the announcement at the link below.
