About the Fellowship
This fellowship honors Jack and Doris Shadbolt’s vision of connected art and society. It treats humanities and arts as vital sites of intellectual inquiry. Indigenous applicants are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates from other underrepresented groups are also warmly welcomed.
What Fellows Receive
Fellows receive a stipend of CAD $25,000 per four-month term. A full academic year brings total funding up to CAD $75,000. Fellows join an academic unit within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. They also gain a secondary affiliation elsewhere at SFU, where relevant.
Who Can Apply
Emerging and established scholars, artists, writers, and practitioners may apply. International applicants are welcome, alongside Canadian citizens and residents. Current SFU students and continuing SFU appointees cannot apply. Applicants must propose independent work outside any existing degree programme.

Applicants submit a completed application form, current CV, and cover letter. The cover letter should explain the project, affiliation choices, and requested duration. Contacting the relevant SFU department beforehand is strongly recommended.
