The head of Italy’s labor union movement, Maria Grazia Gabrielli, believes that the country should switch from its existing quota system to an annual flow system that better represents its actual labor needs. Making the procedure more adaptable and demand-responsive is the aim.

Fears Regarding the Abuse of Seasonal Employees

The Italian government is tightening safeguards to prevent the exploitation of seasonal work visas, even despite the growth in the number of permits. There will be 93,550 seasonal work visas available in 2025, mostly for the travel & tourist and agriculture industries. When compared to 89,050 visas in 2024, this indicates a minor rise.

Georgia Meloni, the prime minister, has voiced worries about criminal networks taking advantage of the system and selling work visas for up to €15,000. As a result, the government is working with nations like Bangladesh to stop the smuggling of migrants and combat human trafficking.
