Israel Launches e-Visa and ETA-IL Systems to Streamline Travel in 2025

Israel is set to transform its entry procedures with the launch of the e-Visa-B2 and the ETA-IL systems. These initiatives aim to simplify visa applications and enhance security for travelers. Starting January 1, 2025, these new measures will significantly improve the entry process for international visitors.

What is e-Visa-B2?

The e-Visa-B2 is an online platform that allows eligible foreign nationals to apply for a B2 visa electronically. This visa covers various travel purposes, including tourism, visiting family, and short-term business trips. By streamlining the application process, the e-Visa system offers a faster and more user-friendly experience for travelers seeking entry into Israel.

Launch of Israel’s Electronic Visa (e-Visa)

Currently, Israel’s e-Visa is in a pilot phase, exclusively available to Indian nationals applying for B2 visas. This category includes:

  • Tourist visits
  • Family trips
  • Short-term business or non-academic study trips
  • Medical treatment stays

Israeli authorities plan to expand the e-Visa program to include additional nationalities in the future. This expansion will provide broader access to simplified travel procedures.

Eyal Siso, Director General of the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA), described the e-Visa as “a true revolution.” He emphasized that travelers can manage their applications from home and receive their entry visas seamlessly.

How to Apply for an Israeli e-Visa

Applying for an e-Visa is straightforward and conducted entirely online through the official PIBA portal (israel-entry.piba.gov.il). Applicants must provide the following information and documents:

  • Valid email address
  • Travel details
  • Passport information
  • Personal data

Required Documents:

  • Valid passport
  • Passport-style photo
  • Return ticket
  • Health insurance
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Evidence of sufficient funds
  • Invitation letter (if applicable)

Once the application is submitted and the fee of 100 NIS (€27 or $28) is paid online, approval is usually granted within 10 business days. In some cases, applicants may need to visit the nearest Israeli consulate. The e-Visa-B2 is valid for 90 days, allowing a maximum stay of up to 90 days.

Important Note: The e-Visa-B2 does not guarantee entry into Israel. Border control officers will assess travelers upon arrival.

Introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL)

Israel has also introduced the ETA-IL system for travelers from 99 visa-exempt countries and territories. This electronic travel authorization applies to short stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes.

Key Features of ETA-IL:
  • Validity: Stays up to 90 days per visit; valid for two years or until the passport expires.
  • Cost: 25 NIS (€7 or $7).
  • Application Window: Submit online 1 month to 72 hours before departure.

The ETA-IL allows Israeli authorities to pre-screen applications, which reduces wait times and ensures smoother border entry.

Benefits of Israel’s Digitized Entry Procedures

The introduction of the e-Visa and ETA-IL programs marks a significant advancement in facilitating travel to Israel. By digitizing these procedures, the country enhances convenience and accessibility while maintaining strong security measures.

For travelers, this means a more efficient application process, reduced paperwork, and quicker border clearance. Israel is becoming an even more attractive destination for tourism, business, and cultural exchanges.
