About the IOM Internship Programme
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a pivotal intergovernmental organization committed to advancing humane and orderly migration, ensuring that the process benefits everyone involved. Each year, IOM welcomes a large number of interns to its global offices, offering them a chance to immerse themselves in the organization’s diverse programs and initiatives.

Eligibility Requirement
To join the IOM internship program, we’re looking for applicants who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- You should be in your final year of a Bachelor’s degree program or an equivalent.
- If you’re currently enrolled in a graduate program working toward a master’s degree or higher
- Then, recent graduates, having completed a university or graduate degree within the past year
- We also encourage individuals who have sponsorship from a governmental agency, non-governmental organization, or academic institution for work related to what we do at IOM.
- We want our interns to be between the ages of 19 and 36, with the average age around 26, so there’s a good chance you’ll be joining a vibrant group of peers.
- Lastly, it’s important that you know at least one of IOM’s official languages (English, French, or Spanish) so you can communicate effectively, both in writing and speaking.
Benefits of the IOM Internship
- Monthly Subsistence Allowance (MSA): Interns will get a stipend to support their living expenses. Note that exceptions exist when the internship is a requirement for university coursework or when funding is secured from an external source.
- Visa and Travel: It is imperative that interns or their sponsoring institutions take charge of organizing and covering travel and visa expenses. The IOM will issue a visa support letter to facilitate this process.
- Work Assignments: Interns will get tasks that align with their academic and professional backgrounds, with guidance from experienced supervisors ensuring their development
- Global Opportunities: Internship positions are available in IOM Country Offices across the globe and at IOM Headquarters in Geneva, offering significant international exposure.
