Internships In Austria: Fully Funded IST Summer Internship 2025
The IST Summer Internship Program 2025 in Austria offers foreign students a remarkable chance to acquire practical research experience in partnership with Europe’s premier institutes. This fully funded internship provides practical experience with theoretical courses and includes a monthly stipend. Participants gain from professional mentorship while engaging with Europe’s diverse academic landscape, resulting in an optimal combination of education and cultural immersion.
Essential Information
The IST Internship Program, which is highly competitive, collaborates with the Austrian Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) to execute its objectives. OeAD, known for promoting international educational exchanges, helps students develop practical research skills using IST’s advanced resources. Participants gain distinctive insights into scientific fields, build a solid foundation for internationally relevant careers, and collaborate with leading academics at a prestigious European institution.
The ISTernship Program 2025 distinguishes itself by providing a fully funded summer internship in Europe, aimed at helping students establish international contacts while augmenting their professional skills. Interns are provided with a substantial monthly stipend, guaranteeing financial stability during the program. This initiative, supported by OeAD, allows participants to concentrate on their research ideas while acquiring practical skills, serving as a foundation for a promising career in science and innovation.
IST INTERNSHIP FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW
Successful candidates are provided support with travel and visa arrangements if necessary.
Each selected candidate is awarded remuneration to support living expenses in Austria and travel to and from the country.
Upon arrival, ISTerns engage in an orientation session introducing ISTA’s Graduate School. In July, a sequence of events is scheduled to familiarize ISTerns with the research undertaken at ISTA. The event concludes with a poster session, during which ISTerns showcase their work to the wider ISTA community.
The software will be executed in English. Full, uninterrupted physical presence is mandatory for participation in the program.
Reasons to Apply for the IST Summer Internship Program
To begin with, ISTA provides a conducive atmosphere for research and professional advancement. It grants access to cutting-edge facilities, including bioimaging, nanofabrication, and scientific computing, via centralized Scientific Service Units.
Secondly, ISTA possesses a diverse and global culture, featuring a scientific workforce hailing from over 70 countries. ISTA provides career development services for emerging scientists to facilitate their advancement and offers various social and fringe benefits, including accommodation, cafeteria access, sports and leisure activities, language courses, a complimentary ISTA shuttle bus, and on-campus childcare subject to availability.
Also, during your internship at ISTA, you will receive guidance from your supervisor while working on your project(s). Variations in project types you may undertake are contingent upon your background, research interests, and the specific focus of the group you join.
Moreover, interns in life science laboratories (e.g., biology, neurology) or experimental physics and chemistry/materials generally conduct experiments, perform literature reviews, and acquire new procedures to solve specific research inquiries.
Furthermore, in theoretical sciences, including mathematics, computer science, data science, scientific computing, theoretical physics, and computational chemistry, interns compose proofs, review pertinent literature, and occasionally get the chance to co-author publications based on their findings.
Additionally, internships with our staff scientists are also available. They are thoroughly trained researchers offering specialized skills, competence, and experience typically absent in research teams.

Application procedure for the IST Internship in Europe for 2025
There are two methods to apply for membership in ISTA: the ISTernship summer program and year-round scientific internships.
The ISTernship summer program is a scholarship initiative including a consolidated application and admissions procedure. Joining the ISTernship program offers the advantages of participating in an international cohort of interns, presenting your research findings at the ISTernship Poster Session—which includes a poster competition—attending specialized mini-lectures on various research topics, and receiving supplementary assistance with housing. This is a distinguished program that offers extensive opportunities to engage in the dynamic research environment at ISTA.
Applicants are not required to contact academics to apply for the ISTernship program, as the selection process is managed by a centralized call.
Second Phase
The other way to secure an internship is via year-round scientific internships, when you engage with the faculty member of interest to negotiate the commencement and conclusion dates of the internship. The length of these internships may extend to one year.
