If you are interested in residing and working in Sydney, Australia, this internship opportunity is tailored to your needs. We welcome students from all majors and interests. We will assign successful applicants to research projects or organizational partners that align with their interests and experiences.

Opportunities are available to all Cornell undergraduate students, with a specific emphasis on those pursuing business, environmental sustainability, communications and public relations, technology, data analysis, marketing, engineering, non-governmental organizations, and university research.

Past Cornell students have completed internships at the Sustainable Future Group, Way to Blue, U.S Studies Centre, Greenpeace, Livelo, Level Beverages, and Property Council of Australia.

Financial support

The Cornell in Washington Summer Term

During the Cornell in Washington (CIW) Summer Term, you will engage in a full-time internship in Washington D.C., enroll in a Cornell course to earn academic credit and participate in unique events that are characteristic of the city.

Washington D.C. is widely considered to be the ideal location for a summer internship due to its numerous and diverse options across several fields of interest. While we cannot directly assign students to internships, as businesses have their selection procedures, our team may assist students in enhancing their chances of securing highly competitive internships. We offer guidance in resume construction, drafting cover letters, and refining interview skills.

Here are some instances of CIW students with particular interests and the locations of their internships:

  • The government consists of three main components: the Executive Branch, Congress, and other government agencies.
  • Legal entities: Supreme Court, Department of Justice, D.C. Public Defender’s Office
  • Economics: President’s Council of Economic Advisors, Congressional Budget Office, Treasury Department, and World Bank.
  • Social justice is advocated for by organizations such as the ACLU, Amnesty International, and the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.
  • Health and medical organizations include the American Public Health Association, the Centers for Disease Control, and the National Institutes of Health. The organization referred to as the “Red Cross”
  • Organizations dedicated to environmental conservation include the Environmental Protection Agency, the Audubon Society, the National Wildlife Federation, and the National Park Service.
  • International Affairs: State Department, Peace Corps, Council on Foreign Relations
    Media and communications outlets include CNN, C-SPAN, NBC, Fox News, NPR, Voice of America, the New York Times, and the Washington Post.
