International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is an international, research-for-development organization that works with governments, civil society, and the private sector to solve water problems in developing countries and scale-up solutions.

About the job
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join as a Research Officer to support the Resilience Against Climate Change: Social Transformation Research and Policy Advocacy (REACH-STR) project and related research activities. The focus of the REACH-STR project is on social transformation analysis in climate change adaptation and mitigation for rural livelihoods in the savannah ecosystem in Ghana.
THE ROLE
- Conduct field data collection, and assist in database development and analysis, and publishing of articles and briefs, with a specific focus on the Gender Work Stream of the REACH-STR project.
- Organize learning events for development officers, workshops for diverse stakeholders, and policy engagement dialogues.
- Organize meetings for the project management team and core project team meetings, and prepare minutes.
- Assist in the coordination of young professional seminars and other engagements related to students from host universities under the REACH-STR project.
- Organize logistics for the implementation of all field visits and activities (research sites in the Upper West and Savannah regions of Ghana).
- Assist the REACH-STR Project Leader, National Researcher – Monitoring & Evaluation, and Communication Officer in collating key information on project activities, outputs and outcomes.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated technical, financial and relevant reports.
- Assist in the preparation and organization of workshops and other activities organized by project partners (Center for Migration Studies, University of Ghana; Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Science and Technology Policy Research Institute [CSIR-STEPRI]; and Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies [SDD-UBIDS] [formerly University for Development Studies, Wa Campus).
Requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- A master’s degree in Social Sciences (Sociology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics or Extension, Human Geography) or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in a research and development environment, preferably in Ghana.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English and local languages of Ghana’s Upper West Region.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, including database management and PowerPoint presentations.
- Experience in writing journal articles, project and policy briefs, technical reports and meeting minutes.
- Experience in field data collection using both qualitative and quantitative methods, and gender analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively and reliably carry out delegated functions without extensive supervision.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional, and multicultural environment.
- Proven commitment to gender equality and respect for humanity.
- Wider knowledge of social transformation, gender, development planning, climate action, and youth and social inclusion issues in Ghana.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
This is a nationally recruited staff position and only citizens of Ghana are encouraged to apply. IWMI offers a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes transport and health insurance. The duration of the contract will be for a three-year period with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds.
