HUNGARY PASSPORT APPLICATION PORTAL
The General Cloud Computing, Registry, and Election Directorate of the Hungarian Ministry of the Interior issue Hungarian passports to citizens for foreign travel. As of January 2023, the Hungarian passport is ranked 22nd in the world. Along with the national ID card, the passport lets you travel and live in any country in the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland without any restrictions.
TYPES OF HUNGARY PASSPORT
Hungary passports are available in the following formats:

Regular Passport
These passports are often issued to citizens and are valid for 2, 5, or 10 years.

Diplomatic Passports
Officials on diplomatic missions and in diplomacy are awarded Diplomatic Passports,

Official Passport
Executives and members of the government who have official responsibilities are given official passports.

Emergency Passport
This passport type is issued in emergency conditions and is particularly, good for up to 6 months.
PASSPORT VALIDATION PERIOD
Passports from Hungary are valid for ten years. For youngsters under the age of 16, the passport is valid for 3 years.
HUNGARY PASSPORT ELIGIBILITY CRITERION
One could become a citizen of Hungary by becoming a naturalized citizen or by having a parent who was born in Hungary. Foreign parents who give birth in Hungary typically do not obtain Hungarian citizenship.
One can, however, apply for Hungarian citizenship. Once you have all the paperwork you need, you can finally apply for Hungarian citizenship at the Hungarian Consulate that is closest to you. Applying in person is typically required. You must additionally, pay a consular charge of around $110 to apply for and obtain Hungarian citizenship.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR THE PASSPORT APPLICATION PROCESS
A new passport application or renewal requires the following paperwork and documents:
- First and foremost, a completed passport application form
- Additionally, identity documentation: current passport (if any)
- Besides that, an Xpresspost envelope is pre-paid and self-addressed.
- Lastly, passport cost.
WHERE TO APPLY FOR AN HUNGARY PASSPORT
One can submit their passport application at one of the following locations:
- Firstly, offices of local government
- Secondly, county or municipal government departments with integrated client services
- Additionally, a Budapest consulate (if you are abroad).
- Finally, the state agency in charge of the citizenship process in Hungary
HOW TO APPLY
Any Hungarian citizen may submit a passport application. You must apply in person, through one of our representations, or on an extramural consular day because your photograph and fingerprints are taken on-site when you apply for a passport. The processing time typically takes 5 to 6 weeks.
