HOW TO TELL WHAT IPHONE YOU HAVE

From time to time, Apple online releases new models of iPhone. Sometimes because you’ve had the phone for a long time, you may not even remember the model you have. Sometimes all you remember is whether it is an iPhone 6, 7, 8, X, 11, or 12.

Usually, Apple’s upgrades don’t always change the design, it is mostly the inside features. Also, Apple is not fond of inscribing the model name or new number on the device case, especially with the recent upgrades. There are several reasons why you may need to have an upper knowledge of what iPhone you have.

In this article, you’ll find some guidelines on how to find and tell what iPhone you have, and why knowing that is important.

TELLING WHAT IPHONE YOU HAVE

One sure of finding and telling what iPhone you have is by opening up the settings app on your phone.

  • Thus, the first thing you do is to open the settings app and select General.
  • Next, at the top of the general page, tap on “About”.
  • Afterward,  a set of information will be displayed on your screen. This information includes the software version of your device, the model name, the model number, as well as the serial number.

Moreso, note that these model numbers are very important.  The model number alone can help you find out what iPhone model you have. If you enter that model number on a search engine,  you’ll find the exact model you have as well as the capacity and its color. The number displayed as the model number by default is actually the part number. This part number is also referred to as the SKU.

Let’s take a look at the following examples.

  • If your model number is either A1634, A1687, or A1699, then it means you are using the iPhone model 6S Plus.

Furthermore, you can tell what iPhone you have by checking the back of your phone. From the first version of the iPhone released to the iPhone 7, Apple etched the model number on the back of the phone. These numbers are very small to read. These numbers help to identify the country in which the device was sold as well as the region it ends indeed in. Note that the iPhone 8 and other recent upgrades do not have this number etched at the back of the phone.

Additionally, you can check the SIM tray to find the model number of your phone. This is when you can’t turn on your phone at the moment and when it has not been etched on the back of the phone. Pop-out your SIM tray by using the pin and carefully check the slot where the SIM card is placed.  The model number is inscribed there. However, it is very small such that you may probably need a magnifying glass to look at it.
