At this point, the applicant may be required to attend an interview with the visa officer, who will check the applicant’s reasons for visiting Canada, the applicant’s ability or desire to depart Canada within the visa validity period, and the applicant’s overall admissibility to Canada.

Second Step: Once a visit visa is obtained, the applicant may enter Canada. An immigration official will question the applicant at the port of entry to ensure that they are admissible.

A visitor visa may be valid for a single or many entries. Single-entry visas can be given up to six months before the intended date of travel. Multiple entrance visitor visas have a maximum validity period of five (5) years or one month before the passport/re-entry visa expires, whichever comes first. POE officials will commonly award a tourist entrance permit for six months.

A foreign national with an immigrant visa in progress may apply for a temporary residence visa.
