How to Protect Your Debit and Credit Card Against Fraud in Ghana
A credit card is a plastic card, usually with an embedded microchip, connected to a credit account and used to buy goods. A debit card is a lot like a credit card, but it takes money directly from the bank account, rather than borrowing the money from the issuer of the card.
One comes into contact or owns one of these once they create a bank account. The fraud of these cards is increasingly becoming rampant on the internet all over the world. People find themselves wanting once they visit the bank due to an online transaction. Fraud seems to be increasing lately, especially in Ghana, therefore is a need to protect yourself.
In this article, we give you tips on how to protect your debit or credit card against fraud in Ghana.
1 . Avoid using your cards for online purchases
One thing you must avoid to protect yourself is to stop using your card online. To be on the safer side get yourself an online credit card that you will you for online purchases only. While you keep your debit card for ATM use only.
Once you are asked to input your four-digit code or pin during an online transaction, you would go to advise yourself. Online hackers can use your card details and create a replica card and then make withdrawals from your account.
2 . Be careful when using the ATM
Some hackers tend to make their hacks from here. They install technologies that will capture the details of your card and pin. For this, you need to be extra careful when operating or using the ATM. It will be advisable to use ATMs from the branches of your bank.
3 . Get an SMS alert for your cards
You will have to get your bank to set your alerts for your cards. With this, you will get a notification every time money comes in and out of your account. This will help prevent future losses should in case you spot an unknown transaction on your card. This service tho an optional service will do you much good than harm if you subscribe to it.
4 . Change your Pin as often as possible
It won’t hurt to change your pin from time to time. Depending on how good you are at memorizing numbers you will have to change your pin quite often. A hacker can get the details of your card, then wait for some time to do their transactions. So if you happen to change your pin, they will not have access to your money.
