About the Fellowship

This fellowship pairs scholars with a dedicated tandem partner at IFSH. Fellows join an interdisciplinary group of internationally renowned researchers. Weekly lunches, colloquia, and dinners build lasting scholarly connections. Family-friendly support helps fellows relocate with partners and children.

What Fellows Receive

IFSH funds each fellowship through a stipend or a replacement cost reimbursement. Fellows receive a fully equipped workspace in central Hamburg. Guesthouse accommodation at the University of Hamburg may be available. Home institutions’ sabbatical contributions are strongly encouraged and welcomed.

Who Can Apply

Applicants need a doctorate in humanities, social, or natural sciences. Artists and policymakers with closely related scholarly work may qualify. Female, non-binary, and early career scholars are especially encouraged. Applicants from underrepresented regions are also particularly welcome.

Required Materials

Applicants submit a cover letter, CV, and publication list. A three-page project description and a one-page public summary are required. Everything combines into one English-language PDF upload.
