Gold Fields Ghana Invites Job Applications

Gold Fields Ghana is looking for an experienced and qualified professional to fill the position of Vice President – Technical Services.

The chosen applicant will report to the Executive Vice President and Head of West Africa and will be responsible for designing and establishing technological systems and processes capable of quickly adapting to changing regional environments to ensure company continuity and sustainability.

By identifying technical and technological prospects, the incumbent will strive to raise the possibility for an improved competitive position and investor attraction, as well as the viability of expansion opportunities in the West Africa Region.

Principal Responsibilities

Strategic Positions

  • To position the company in the regional market, develop an integrated regional strategy that is connected with corporate strategies.
  • Effective strategic planning helps guarantee that management systems, processes, policies, and resources are in place to satisfy the technical services portfolio’s long-term demands.
  • Technical system, policy, and procedure alignment and integration across the Gold Fields West Africa area.
  • Respond to developing and competitor trends in order to keep Gold Fields competitive.
  • Scan for changes in the region’s sociopolitical dynamics that may have an impact on the technical domain of the firm, such as law, technical talent availability, and so on.
  • Technical due diligence is performed on new ventures/businesses to identify potential, risks, strengths, and shortcomings.

Leadership Positions

  • Maintain an active and influential role with key regional professional groups, national governments, and other stakeholders on technical problems that will define mining and its attractiveness as a regional investment industry.
  • Drive technological advancement and innovation for increased company value.
  • Reduce the company’s risk exposure and avoid potential legal action by taking proactive measures, providing timely guidance, and providing support to regional senior management on local and regional technical and legislative challenges.
  • Oversee the effective application of group technical frameworks and provide a framework for localized succession planning with appropriate skill transfer.
  • Through the Talent Council structure, create a performance culture inside the field.
  • Planning for succession within geographical restrictions to provide an ongoing supply of technical skills for production sustainability and continuity.
  • Assist in the formation of a regional technical center of competent and crucial skills linked with future regional business issues and strategies.

Roles in Functionality

  • Develop an integrated life of business plan for the Region by integrating cross-functional models based on my life plans, taking present assets into account, expansion plans, and geological modeling based on new knowledge.
  • Assist regional operations in optimizing their business plans in accordance with the integrated regional Life of Business plan.
  • Improve operational profitability by designing, acquiring, customizing, and integrating technology across the region.
  • Identify prospects for greenfield development and synergies with existing enterprises.
  • Take into consideration current and emerging regional socio-political and legal protocols, frameworks, and trends, and differentiate the organization in the region through specialized and integrated technical business solutions.
  • Apply skill development approaches at all levels of promotion and technical skill areas.
  • Ensure that risks are controlled by suitable controls, which are supported by appropriate systems and tools.

Important Requirements

Minimum requirements:

BSc./Diploma in a related technical subject, such as mining engineering, mine planning, metallurgical engineering, mechanical electrical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, and so forth.

Qualifications Desirable

Postgraduate certificate/diploma/degree in a technical subject such as engineering, technology, digital transformation, business innovation and/or MBA, project management, and so on.

Qualifications for Strategic Planning.

  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma will be beneficial.
  • A member of a mining sector professional organization relevant to the profession.

Core Competencies and Experience

  • A minimum of 20 years of operational experience, with a minimum of 10 years in operations management in an open pit mine and 5 years in senior management.
  • Corporate Experience with a Large Mining Company.
  • Must have a proven track record of operational success.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Must have a strong understanding of Lean Six Sigma concepts for continuous company improvement and high performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software is required.
  • Capable of demonstrating business acumen as well as superior communication and presentation abilities.
  • Capability to lead a team in a high-performance environment.
  • To achieve goals/targets, the ability to foster collaboration and maintain effective relationships with individuals in teams is required.
  • The ability to tolerate high degrees of stress.
  • Capability to successfully communicate at all levels.
  • Capability to handle change and effectively communicate information to team members for more efficient execution.
  • Ability to align project tasks with chances for development in order to maximize personnel potential.
