Global Fishing Watch Calls for Job Applications
POSITION: Government Partnerships & Capacity Development Specialist
About GFW
Global Fishing Watch is a global non-profit group that aims to improve ocean management by sharing information about activities at sea. We believe that understanding how people use the ocean is essential for its protection and everyone’s benefit. We were founded in 2015 through a partnership involving Oceana, SkyTruth, and Google, and became an independent non-profit in June 2017.
Using advanced technology, we generate and share maps and data to support scientific research and improve ocean management. Our main focus is on commercial fishing because it has a big impact on ocean health and is important for people’s livelihoods and food security. By 2030, we want to track and show the effects of vessels, both large and small, that catch most of the world’s seafood. We believe this information should be available to ensure the ocean is used fairly and sustainably.
