Job Description
Reports To: SBC Specialist/WASH Specialist
Global Communities, a non-profit organization, is looking for an experienced individual to become the BCC Officer for a one-year USAID-funded project called WASH in Low-Cost Private Schools (WinLCPS). This project aims to ensure that private low-cost schools have enough access to water, sanitation, menstrual hygiene education, and other hygiene services. It also encourages students and staff to adopt better hygiene practices. The project will focus on specific low-cost private schools in the Northern, North East, Upper West, and Upper East regions of Ghana.
Key Responsibilities
The SBC Officer will work closely with the SBC team in the WinLCPS program by helping the SBC and WASH Specialists with these tasks:
- Helping to design and implement effective SBC strategies during the project.
- Taking part in creating WASH campaigns for private low-cost schools.
- Training staff and students on how to use the WASH facilities properly and hygienically.
- Promoting menstrual hygiene management for staff and students.
- Encouraging good hygiene habits, like handwashing, among staff and students.
- Creating communication materials with input from project partners.
- Compiling weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity reports.
- Working with the SBC and WASH Specialists on other assigned duties. Please note that these responsibilities may change.
Qualifications
- A degree in Public Health, Development Studies, Communications, Psychology, or a related field, or a nursing certification.
- At least 3 years of work experience, including 1 year in a public sector job (like CWSA, Ghana Health Service, or Ghana Education Service), ideally in hygiene promotion.
- Understanding of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) issues in rural and urban areas.
- Knowledge of menstrual hygiene management and how gender affects WASH practices.
- Good English speaking and writing skills, plus proficiency in one local language.
- Computer skills, especially in Microsoft Office and database programs.

- Good teamwork and communication skills.
