Germany CATS Fellowships 2025/2026
The Centre for Applied Turkey Studies (CATS) at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), which is the prestigious German Institute for International and Security Affairs located in Berlin, is excited to announce the launch of its highly regarded CATS Fellowships for the 2025/2026 academic year. Who is Eligible to Apply?
CATS invites applications from:
- Veteran researchers, think tank associates, and policy experts engaged in Turkey-focused topics.
- Early-stage researchers with demonstrated research success (including PhD candidates who have made significant advancements in Turkey-related studies).
- Candidates with a keen interest in connecting academic research to policy outcomes.
CAT Fellowship Program Areas of Research Focus
The CAT fellowship backs creative initiatives associated with:
- Domestic political, social, and cultural factors in Turkey.
- Turkey’s involvement in the EU, relationships across the Atlantic, or adjacent areas.
- Policy on security, migration, defence sectors, and studies of the diaspora.
- Any subject related to Turkey that has significance for policy and scholarly rigour.
Candidates should strive to combine theoretical precision with practical policy relevance.
Required Documents
Please submit one PDF document in English or German that contains:
- Cover Letter – 1 page, specifying desired start date and length of time.
- Research Proposal – Up to 5 pages, 1.5 line spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, including:
- Title, objectives, and policy relevance
- Literature review and state of research
- Methodological and theoretical framework
- Bibliography
- Curriculum Vitae – Containing a comprehensive list of scholarly publications.
- Academic Transcripts/Diplomas – Translations not needed.
Benefits of Fellowship
- Length: 6 to 12 months, beginning from September 2025 and beyond.
- Location: At SWP in Berlin, with permitted occasional research trips.
- Stipend: Monthly allowance of €2,800 to €3,000, depending on experience.
