Sadio Mane, who is Senegal’s star forward, has been named ad Africa’s Men Player of the Year. This was announced during the CAF Awards 2022. His victory came after he led the Teranga Lions in their maiden Africa Cup of Nations title. Asisat Oshoala on the other hand, also came out setting a new record for Nigeria as she claimed the fifth Women’s Player award of the Year.

For Senegal, it was a fantastic night for them as the team was also crowned the National Team of the Year. Their coach, Aliou Cisse, also claimed an award as Africa’s Coach of the Year during a session at Rabat, a Morocco capital. The midfielder, Pape Matar Sarr, who was also part of Senegal’s AFCON 2021 was also named Africa’s Young Player of the Year.

Moreso, Evelyn Badu, a Ghanaian,  also won the women’s interclub Player of the year as well as the Young Player of the Year awards. This victory came after she had led Hassacas Ladies to the final of the inaugural TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League and also won the tournament’s, Golden Boot. All these awards were held at a Technical Center in Sale, Rabat in Morocco.  Below is a full list of winners of the CAF Awards.

  • Firstly, Men Player of the Year- Sadio Mane(Senegal and Bayern Munich)
  • Women Player of the Year- Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria and FC Barcelona)
  • Women Interclub Player of the Year- Evelyn Badu (Ghana and Sekondi Hassacas Ladies)
  • Men Interclub Player of the Year- Mohammed El Shenawy (Egypt and Al Ahly)
  • Women Young Player of the Year- Evelyn Badu  (Ghana and Sekondi Hassacas Ladies)
  • Men Young Player of the Year- Pape Matar Sarr (Senegal and Tottenham Hotspur)
  • Women Coach of the Year- Desiree Ellis ( South Africa)
  • Men Coach of the Year- Aliou Cisse (Senegal)
  • Women Club of the Year- Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
  • Men Club of the Year- Wydad Athletic Club (Morocco)
  • Men National Team of the Year- Senegal
  • The goal of the Year – Pape Ousmane Sakho ( Senegal and Simba)
