France MOPGA Visiting Fellowship 2026 for Young Researchers
France continues to show global leadership in addressing climate change through the Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) Visiting Fellowship Programme. This initiative reflects the country’s strong commitment to promoting scientific research that supports sustainable development and environmental preservation.
Now in its ninth edition for 2026, the program will welcome 60 talented young researchers from around the world. These fellows will have the opportunity to carry out groundbreaking research projects in France that align with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
The MOPGA Fellowship focuses on critical areas such as climate change adaptation, biodiversity, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability. Participants will collaborate with top French research institutions and experts dedicated to advancing global climate solutions.
This is a unique opportunity for emerging scientists to engage directly in the global climate movement while experiencing one of Europe’s most research-intensive and innovation-driven environments.
Objective of the Fellowship
The MOPGA Fellowship aims to enhance global scientific collaboration on climate and sustainability. It allows skilled postdoctoral researchers to collaborate with French research institutions and tackle urgent global challenges linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The program highlights cross-disciplinary methods to address the complex issues of environmental change and sustainability.
MOPGA 8 Fellowship Details
Chosen fellows will be awarded:
- A monthly payment of €2,500 over the course of 12 months.
- A relocation assistance of €500 to aid in moving.
- Coverage for social security and health insurance while they are present.
- Support from institutions via a Hosting Agreement (Convention de Séjour de Recherche) outlining research resources and collaboration conditions.
Topics of Study
Participants will concentrate their studies in one of five primary thematic areas:
- Earth Systems – examining the relationships among the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere.
- Climate Change and Sustainability – promoting strategies for climate resilience and adaptation.
- Energy Transition – advancing innovation in renewable energy and achieving carbon neutrality.
- Societal Challenges of Environmental Issues – examining policy, economics, and community adjustments.
- One Health Approach – tackling the links between human, animal, and environmental health.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates are required to:
- Be international scholars who obtained their PhD from December 2020 to December 2025.
- Do not possess French nationality.
- Must not have lived in France for over 90 days from 12 September to 12 December 2025.
- Suggest an engaging research project that aligns with the MOPGA themes and can be conducted at a French institution ready to enter into a research hosting agreement.
Schedule for Applications
The deadline for applications for the MOPGA 8 Visiting Fellowship Programme for Young Researchers is 12 December 2025. Successful candidates will be informed of the outcomes from May to June 2026, providing ample time to complete their preparations. The chosen fellows will subsequently start their research residence in France from September to December 2026, based on the timeline established by their host institutions and the needs of their projects.
