Four Canadian Provinces Issued Provincial Nominations

Four provinces in Canada have issued nominations at the provincial level. Candidates were chosen based on their professional experience, overall eligibility, and confirmed employment for provincial immigration.

It is important to note that every Provincial Nominee Program has its own unique scoring system for assigning eligibility points to immigration candidates. The scores cannot be compared, as they were relevant only within the context of a particular PNP.

What are Provincial Nominee Programs?

Every province, with the exception of Quebec and Nunavut, manages multiple PNP streams. The provinces have designed these streams to align with their specific immigration objectives, resulting in variations in eligibility criteria and application processes. Nonetheless, PNPs are a favoured choice as they often represent the simplest route to obtaining Canadian permanent residence.

All decisions concerning Canadian permanent residence require approval from the federal government at the national level, meaning that provinces in Canada cannot independently grant permanent resident status. The provincial programs are referred to as “nominee” programs for this reason.

A successful applicant for a PNP will receive a nomination from the province to submit an application to the federal government for permanent residence. Immigrating to Canada via a PNP is essentially the initial step in a two-part process. Initially, an interested immigrant receives approval at the provincial level, after which they must proceed to apply at the federal level.
